Mechanism of action HIPRES D 50MG/2.5MG/25MG CAPSULE is a combination of three medicines: Atenolol, amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide. They work by different mechanisms to provide better control of blood pressure when single or dual therapy is not effective. Atenolol is a beta blocker that works by slowing down the heart rate. Amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide are diuretics which remove extra water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine. Over time, hydrochlorothiazide also relaxes blood vessels but causes potassium loss. Amiloride is added as it conserves potassium thereby balancing its levels in the body.
