Alchohol Interaction Spironolactone and alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.
Pregnancy Interaction Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Interaction Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. \nLimited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Common Side Effect Diarrhoea, Stomach upset, Glucose intolerance, Breast enlargement in male, Irregular menstrual cycles, Increased blood lipid level, Increased uric acid level in blood, Electrolyte imbalance, Impotence.
How to Use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Driving Do not drive unless you are feeling well.As Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness and this may affect your ability to drive.
Kidney Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Use of Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.
Liver There is limited information available on the use of Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet in patients with liver disease. Please consult your doctor.
Mechanism of action Metolactone 2.5 mg/50 mg Tablet is a combination of two diuretics: Metolazone and Spironolactone. They work by removing extra water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine. Over time, metolazone also relaxes blood vessels but causes potassium loss. Spironolactone is added as it conserves potassium, thereby balancing its levels in the body.
