Pregnancy Interaction Alkof Syrup may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Interaction Alkof Syrup is probably safe to use during lactation. \nLimited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Common Side Effect Stomach upset, Loss of appetite, Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), Skin rash, Itching, Sleepiness, Flushing of skin.
How to Use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Alkof Syrup may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Driving Alkof Syrup may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Kidney Alkof Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Alkof Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Liver Alkof Syrup is probably unsafe to use in patients with liver disease and should be avoided. Please consult your doctor.
Mechanism of action Alkof Syrup is a combination of four medicines: Cetirizine, phenylephrine, dextromethorphan and menthol which relieve cough and cold symptoms. tCetirizine is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing. Phenylephrine is a decongestant which narrows the small blood vessels providing relief from congestion or stuffiness in the nose. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that relieves cough by reducing the activity of cough center in the brain. Menthol is an organic compound which produces a sensation of coolness and relieves minor throat irritation.
