Alchohol Interaction Taking Methotrxate with alcohol increases the risk of liver damage.
Pregnancy Interaction Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy.Human and animal studies have shown significant adverse effects on the foetus. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Interaction Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet is unsafe to use during lactation. \nData suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby, or the mother is suffering from a condition in which breastfeeding is not advisable.
Expert Advice For autoimmune diseases, Mtrex is taken by mouth, once a week (not every day) on the same day each week. It can take 2 to 3 weeks for Mtrex to start working. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop a sore throat or fever (infection), bruising or bleeding, nausea, abdominal pain or dark urine or difficulty breathing. Your doctor may ask to get complete blood count (CBC), kidney function test (KFT) and liver function test (LFT) before starting treatment and thereafter also. Mtrex may harm your unborn babies or cause miscarriages. You and your partner should avoid conception (becoming pregnant or fathering children) for at least three months after your treatment with Mtrex has stopped. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney or liver problems.
Common Side Effect Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of appetite, Dyspepsia, Abdominal pain, Increased liver enzymes, Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth).
How to Use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Driving Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet may make you feel dizzy, drowsy or affect your vision. Do not drive until your vision is clear.
Kidney Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Use of Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.
Mechanism of action Mtrex 7.5mg Tablet is an anticancer and immunosuppressive medication. It works in cancer by slowing the growth of cancer cells by blocking building blocks that cancer cells need to grow. It also works in autoimmune disease by decreasing the activity of body's immune system and prevents the body from attacking itself.
