Pregnancy Interaction Macbutin Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Interaction Macbutin Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. \nLimited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Expert Advice Taking rifabutin may change the color of your urine to red/orange. You may also experience coloring of the skin and other body fluids and also of soft contact lenses. You may be regularly monitored with blood tests and chest x-rays to check that you do not have active tuberculosis or any other mycobacterial disease. You may also undergo regular eye examination while using rifabutin. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, pain in the chest, swelling of eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching. Use non hormonal birth control techniques (condom, diaphragm with spermicide) to prevent pregnancy, as rifabutin can make birth control pills less effective.
Common Side Effect Decreased white blood cell count, Anemia (low number of red blood cells), Nausea, Rash, Muscle pain.
How to Use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Macbutin Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.Avoid Macbutin Tablet with acidic food and beverages such as sugar, certain dairy products, fish, processed foods, fresh meats and processed meats,sodas and other sweetened beverages.
Driving Macbutin Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney Macbutin Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Macbutin Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver Macbutin Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Macbutin Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Mechanism of action Macbutin Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by TB bacteria to make essential proteins and to reproduce.
