Alchohol Interaction Taking Sitagliptin with alcohol may affect blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
Pregnancy Interaction Istavel 50mg Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Interaction Istavel 50mg Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. \nLimited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Expert Advice Istavel helps to control high blood sugar level and avoid long-term complications of diabetes. Istavel can be taken with or without food. Monitor your blood sugar regularly. Chances of weight gain and low blood sugar are lesser as compared to other diabetes medicines. Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe stomach pain, nausea, and/or vomiting. These could be symptoms of pancreatitis. Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe joint pain.
Common Side Effect Headache, Upper respiratory tract infection, Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar level) in combination with insulin or sulphonylurea, Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages).
How to Use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Istavel 50mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Driving Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is low or high. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney Istavel 50mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Istavel 50mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver Istavel 50mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Istavel 50mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Mechanism of action Istavel 50mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medication. It works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the hormones that raise blood sugar levels. This reduces the fasting and postmeal sugar levels.
