Pregnancy Interaction Adfovir 10mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation Interaction Adfovir 10mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. \nLimited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Expert Advice Adefovir does not prevent the spread of hepatitis B virus to others. Take the required precautions to prevent transmission. Do not stop taking adefovir, unless advised, as doing so may worsen your condition. Adefovir may cause kidney damage. Tell your doctor if you have or had kidney disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes. If you have untreated HIV/AIDS, taking adefovir can cause HIV infection to become resistant to the standard HIV/AIDS medications. You may need to undergo blood tests every three months to ensure that adefovir is keeping your chronic hepatitis B infection under control. You may need to monitor your liver function for several months after you stop using adefovir. Adefovir can cause serious or life-threatening damage to the liver and a condition called lactic acidosis (a build-up of acid in the blood causing muscle pain or weakness, trouble breathing, stomach pain, nausea with vomiting, fast or irregular heartbeats, dizziness or tiredness). Stop taking this medicine immediately if you experience any such reaction. Women should use an effective method of contraception to avoid becoming pregnant while on adefovir therapy.
Common Side Effect Fatigue, Weakness, Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Indigestion, Flatulence, Diarrhoea, Abnormal kidney function test.
How to Use Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Adfovir 10mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Driving It is not known whether Adfovir 10mg Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react.
Kidney Adfovir 10mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Adfovir 10mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver Adfovir 10mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Adfovir 10mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Mechanism of action Adfovir 10mg Tablet prevents the multiplication of HIV virus in human cells. Thus stops the HIV virus from producing new viruses.
